Resurrect stalled bill and call it Laura's Law Cape Cod Times (Hyannis, MA) - March 2, 2008 Finally, justice. Laura Hope Smith died Sept. 13 at 68 Camp St., Hyannis, while under anesthesia administered in the process of an abortion. She was 13 weeks pregnant. To avoid going to trial and probably having his medical records revealed, Dr. Rapin Osathanondh chose to resign his license. This case is evidence of the laxity of enforcement in Massachusetts on private medical practices where abortions are performed. There is no oversight, no inspections, no safety regulations. Women are at the mercy of these "doctors" who practice primarily for the lucrative compensation that performing abortions provides. Women are not duly informed of the risks and dangers, are not shown their ultrasounds, and often not followed up. A bill in the state House of Representatives, H.1687, known as "A Woman's Right to Know," is stalled because of the opposition of Planned Parenthood and its allies in the Democratically controlled Legislature. Let's resurrect H.1687 and call it Laura's Law. A Woman's Concern at 48 Camp St. offers free pregnancy tests, free ultrasounds and information about the risks of abortion, and provides support to women and men in crisis so they can make an informed decision.
