Kirton has joined the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Baystate Medical Center. Kirton earned his medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine and completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Baystate Medical Center in May. During his four-year residency, he was the recipient of the Resident Teacher of the Year Award, selected by Tufts University School of Medicine to recognize accomplished teaching in the obstetrics and gynecology clerkship at Baystate, which serves as the Western Campus of Tufts University School of Medicine. He was also the recipient of the Fetus as a Patient award for his care of high-risk pregnancies, as well as the Resident Achievement Award from the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons for excellence in laparoscopic knowledge and skills. Prior to attending medical school, Kirton attended Boston University, where he graduated cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in biology. Active in research while attending medical school and completing his residency, Kirton served as a research assistant to Dr. Heather Sankey, director of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program at Baystate, for an ongoing project involving the residency training experience at the region’s only academic medical center. He is a member of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the American Medical Assoc. He has also been certified for his completion of the Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Surgery Program. Kirton sees patients at Baystate Wesson Women’s Group, located at 3300 Main St. in Springfield, providing comprehensive obstetrical and gynecological care for women of all ages, including well-women preventive health care, reproductive health counseling and services, and counseling and treatment of the perimenopause and menopausal periods.
