Stamford, CT -- Hanan Rotem performed an abortion on 20-year-old Gloria Aponte at his clinic on April 29, 1986. Rotem failed to perform blood tests prior to the abortion, and allowed an untrained clinic worker to administer anesthesia. Rotem botched the procedure, causing Aponte to hemorrhage. However, the doctor had no emergency transport arrangements, and no hospital admitting privileges. Within hours of her abortion, Gloria Aponte was dead.
