Other Info

In the late 1960’s, University of Chicago student Wendy Chavkin loaned out her apartment to “The Jane Collective,” an illegal abortion ring.  In her memoirs, Chavkin describes how “Jane” would periodically borrow her apartment for the day; Chavkin would later return home to a blood-splattered room.  This inspired Chavkin to become an abortionist herself.  After completing medical school, Chavkin began performing abortions in 1978.  She co-founded Doctors for Choice in 2007, and has served as site director for the Charlotte Ellertson postdoc abortion fellowship at Columbia University.
