May 8, 2015: Florida Health Dept sends a letter of non-compliance. PP is required to complete a background screening check for all employees. Notice states that PP has not completed the employment eligibility check for a specific employee, who must be verified per state regulations.

Abortion patient Maura Mena, a deaf woman who speaks sign language, sues Planned Parenthood for disability discrimination and not obtaining her consent before performing an abortion she didn't want. Maura was pregnant and wanted more children. However, her boyfriend took her to get an abortion. The PP abortion clinic did not provide Maura an interpreter, and wrote her name disparagingly on forms as 'Maura "Fully Deaf" Mena.' The clinic staff ignored that fact that Maura was crying and arguing with her boyfriend about the abortion, and did not conduct an Intimate Partner Screening to find out what was wrong. Instead, Mena was made to sign forms above her English reading level, and was not allowed to communicate in sign language to explain that she didn't want an abortion. The clinic falsely filled out all the paperwork to indicate that Maura gave informed consent, and performed an abortion on her anyway. See pages 11-20.
